Malcolm Westwood has been appointed to the position of Director with portfolio for Age Group Teams on the British Triathlon Board. Malcolm joined the Board of the British Triathlon Federation in September 2010.

Malcolm has taken part in triathlon since the late nineties, where he competed as an age group athlete following thirty years competing in middle-distance athletics and mountain marathons.

Malcolm has been engaged in sport governance in triathlon for a number of years through the Regional Committee, Regional Academy and the Events, Rules and Technical Committee. He is a British Triathlon Level 4 Race Official and a British Triathlon Level 1 Coach and has been involved in elite technical officiating for both the ITU and British Triathlon.

Malcolm greatest contribution to the sport is his commitment with the GE Great Britain Age Group Teams as a GE Great Britain Age Group Team Manager.

Since embarking on team management in 2006 at the ETU Triathlon in Autun, Malcolm has subsequently managed over twenty Great Britain Age Group Teams in triathlon, duathlon, aquathlon and cross triathlon. This includes the successful World Championships teams in Hamburg, Vancouver, Gold Coast and this year’s GE Great Britain Age Group Team in Budapest.

Malcolm is a long-standing member of the Age Group Committee and is compiler and editor of the GE Great Britain Age Group athlete ‘Roll of Honour’ profiles on the British Triathlon website.

Malcolm Westwood comments: “To join the Board of British Triathlon, as Director with portfolio for Age Group Teams is an exciting opportunity. The GE Great Britain Age Group Teams have been very successful over the years, and I look forward to ensuring that as the sport of triathlon continues to grow, all competing athletes have the opportunity to achieve their personal triathlon challenges.”

Sarah Springman, President of British Triathlon said: “We are delighted to be able to recruit a Director with Malcolm’s knowledge and experience to the British Triathlon Board. He is a calm, modest and multi-talented individual, who has been a key player for many years in supporting our gifted and hard-working age group athletes. He understands what they need to perform to their potential and will be able to continue Howard Vine’s excellent work, creating a world class support team for our GE Great Britain Age Group athletes.“
