Well today was a day for learning lessons…. Lesson 1 is just because it says June on the calendar doesn’t make it June. If you have seen the film The Perfect Storm then you have some idea of the sea conditions at the start of the Weymouth Sprint this morning (this may be an excuse… more later). Lesson 2 is don’t go racing if you are not 100% well unless you are superhuman. Lesson 3 is don’t ask Mark Turner to assess the sea conditions – he likes it rough.
Ok so here goes… Fran switched to the Sprint from the middle as she is not well and promptly proved she is actually superhuman by winning it by 4 minutes beating a sub 11hr ironman(lady) into 2nd. Peter Fraser limbered up nicely for Wimbleball putting in a solid swim/bike/run including a battle with ‘friend of Tripurbeck’ Shaun Hutson. ‘Crazy’ Mark Turner surfed home on his back with a big grin on his face and produced a great result in his first proper triathlon. And Mandy cunningly befriended a canoeist so she had someone to chat to as she battled the surf, producing another really solid performance – if you can swim in that, you can swim in anything. Meanwhile yours truly consolidated his position as second best triathlete in the family (yes I know what you are thinking but none of the kids have actually done a triathlon yet…) and learned lessons 1 and 2 inclusive… there got the excuse in at last!
Kerry teamed up with mate Jo to race in a bouncy castle inclusive mountain bike race (we are a bit hazy on the details) and promptly won it – brilliant!
Also, Justin was running the Poole Park 10k but we don’t know how it went yet….. more on that one later.
Mountain bike yes, bouncy castle, kind of! was one there for the kids. It was an adventure race, all off rd, run/bike/run/bike/kayak/bike with a bit of a swim in there too and inflatable challenge – almost castle like : ) to finish. was great, I’ll do race report and photo soon. well done to everyone who raced this weekend, and Fran is definatley superhuman!!!
