Several TriPurbeck athletes, possibly inspired by the juniors yesterday, headed down to Portland in the dark this morning to have a go at the Race to The Bill Triathlon and I am very pleased to announce that I was first………………… of the TriPurbeck athletes to reach the Bill. Cunningly, I achieved this by entering the sprint race that started half an hour earlier than the classic race. This decision back fired on me badly as I had to endure several seconds of remorseless ribbing from John Skilton and my very own wife along the lines of ‘call that a man’s race’ and so on. As a footnote, it is worth mentioning that no other really old blokes beat me.

So on to the main event. Justin hadn’t actually entered but still got up at 4.30 on the off chance that they might let him enter on the day. They did and he promptly once again showed his potential to go fast – needs to get out on that bike a bit more though….. John Skilton was only just behind Justin coming out of T2 and a solid run saw him post a competitive 2.43 finish time. Liz had a great swim, heading into T1 ahead of Justin, said she didn’t enjoy the bike but then ran well to win her age group and finish 4th lady overall – great performance. Friend of  TriPurbeck Callum also had a really good race in only his second olympic distance event. Oh, and Fran won…. again.

In the New Forest, Mandy and Mark ran the half marathon together in 2.04 but Brian might have to take performance of the day with a pb in the full marathon. Now that is a man’s race!!!!!
