There seem to have been lots of family outings to running events in the last few days. First up were the Bardsley twins – Sharon and Louise – running in the Boxing Day 10k in Poole Park. Sharon ran very well indeed to post a new pb for the race and winning her age category – great performance.

On the day after New Years Day (does it have a proper name?) the McDermotts and Bungays descended on Somerley House. Clare and Fran did the proper 10k race whilst Neil and I did the less proper 5k (yes I know what you are thinking but I’d like you to keep it to yourself). Jack McD also did the 5k and posted a great time. I followed Neil round to make sure he didn’t drop anything, finishing 23 seconds behind him but laden down with a whole load of his possessions. I’d like to extend my gratitude at this point to the timekeepers who clearly knew exactly what they were doing and I am very pleased with my new pb of 16.35.

There also appeared to be a little confusion over the exact distance needed to constitute a 10k race. The organisers settled, in the end, for something closer to 11k – Fran was not best pleased about this – I will be asking Clare for comment at a later date. Having said all of that it was a very good event and all in a good cause, so we would recommend anyone to take part next year. Don’t expect a pb in the 10k though.
