There was fantastic representation from TriPurbeck juniors at the National Biathlon Championships on Sunday racing under the umbrella of Dorset Pentathletes. Wisely, we all booked into a hotel the night before as some of the athletes had to register as early as 11.30am and none of us has been as far North as Birmingham before. Had we known the hotel was next to the Tamworth snow dome, we would probably have gone even earlier….. a plan for next year.
Max and Annie were first up in the youth E running category, both running really well with Max finishing 6th overall in the run. Stephen was almost simultaneously setting a pb in the pool without starting blocks so a great swim. Jed, George and Jack were all up in the youth D boys run next. George went in the first heat and put in a stunning performance knocking a massive 17sec off his pb and storming through on the last lap from about 4th place to win by a good 40m. Jack also posted a pb (3min19sec) finishing 3rd in his heat and 9th fastest overall. Jed then completed the set running 3min16sec - the 6th fastest time overall. Meanwhile, Annie was due in the pool and swam really well to knock a sec of her pb – again without blocks and helped her team to an 8th place finish overall. Max didn’t enjoy the swim as much as the run but still finished in 21st place overall (this is the national championships remember). Jack stormed his 100m heat to set yet another pb and Jed and George both had decent swims too. Back in opposite world, Stephen was now running and just to cap it off knocked about 20sec off his pb for 1500m – brilliant. Individually, Jed, Jack and George finished 12th, 17th and 31st respectively with George and Jack picking up medals as Dorset C finished in 3rd place overall. It was a really good day and great to see all the TriPurbeck kit out in force!
Meanwhile, presumably spurred on by the expenditure associated with the parental support framework at the biathlon, several of our adult members paid good money to cycle past their own houses in the Jurassic sportive. Too many to mention but notable events from the day included Vince posting under 6 hours for the 100mile route, Peter getting stuck for 10minutes at the wool level crossing in sight of the finish and Richie jogging to the burger van in preparation for his upcoming ironman challenge.
