Sounds like Roddy’s legendary internal compass was put to the test on Saturday as he took to the parklands of South Devon with Guy on a 5 hour endurance adventure with paddles, bikes, running and shooting wilderbeast (I think). We don’t know where they came exactly but they have medals. Here is Guy’s report (the answer to the question at the end is censored):
In a deep dark valley somewhere in Devon started a 5hr endurance event involving mountain biking, running and kayaking plus a fair amount of orienteering (turns out that’s not Roddy’s strongest discipline!) We started out on the cycle stage with a rough idea of the first digital check point, first one found with ease just another nine to go! Now I don’t know if cold and damp had started to affect our brains but from then on in it got decidedly harder. But with sheer determination and a lot of back tracking we managed to acquire a further six. A hilly climb back to transition for the run leg and a quick bit of fuel. We set off with as much energy as a couple of spring chickens! Three check points found and are legs feeling like jelly we were looking forward to getting in the kayak to totally finish off our bodies! A strong tide and lots of mud things seemed to be conspiring against us we hoped to pick up all four check points but only managed to secure two. All that was left was a quick 4k back to transition to complete the 5hr event (the longest 4k of our lives!) The question has been asked if Roddy and I would do it all again……………..Absolutely, we can’t wait! You coming Ade?
Full reports from all of Sunday’s action will appear tomorrow……
