Richie Robson became the newest TriPurbeck Ironman on Sunday in Ironman Austria. Purbeck cycling legend Robson (pictured here in the Dartmoor Devil sporting his garmin-cervelo pro cycling gear)  was apparently unperturbed by the no wetsuit swim due to the hot condtions although rumours that he completed the 3.8km swim in his budgy smugglers have yet to be confirmed. 6hrs45mins on the bike was not too shabby and set him up for the marathon – a full 26 miles and 385 yards mainly characterised by being exactly 26miles further than any of his training runs. First comments following his 14hr12min finish were ‘that’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done’ followed by ‘I’d be at swimming on Wednesday morning but I need to service an air conditioning unit’. So the big question is….. will Richie have the legs for the etape in 2 weeks time?

Friend of TriPurbeck Dave Higgins also raced in Austria clocking an impressive 12hrs17min. Jed was in acton on Saturday coming 2nd in the Southwest Biathle – great result and there was some great running at Upton on Friday night with Chris Weeks (19.20) 3rd in the race followed by Justin (20.35), Neil (21.12), Culvin 21.22), Chris Wood (21.35),  Carl (22.42), Simon (25.06), John (25.33), Sharon (27.03) and Clare (33.00). Sharon took the honours, winning her age group.

Amongst the juniors racing, Jack finished 5th overall and second in his age group. Harry was 3rd in his age group, Callum 2nd in his age group, Matthew 5th in his age group, Isobel 2nd in the 4yr old girls race, but it was Eddie and Madeleine who took top honours winning their respective races. Great turn out – looking forward to the next one.

Meanwhile, lots of us are racing in Bournemouth this Sunday…..
