Details about everyone’s races at Bournemouth in a minute but first news that Peter Fraser smashed the World TriPurbeck over 40s ironman record by nearly an hour yesterday in Germany clocking 13hr24min in very hot conditions. Would have been faster but we understand that he had a disagreement with the second part of the marathon. A few hours after the race the big man was already planning for next year……..

Meanwhile in Bournemouth, I ‘accidentally’  entered the sprint race avoiding the need to race John ‘I got a bit faster’ Skilton who ‘accidentally’ entered Wimbleball without telling anyone and then ‘accidentally’ entered Bournemouth with his friend Nigel who he was hoping to beat for the first time. Unfortunately, Nigel ‘accidentally’ went out training a lot and pipped John by 3 minutes despite John ducking under 2hrs30min for the first time. I got back from the sprint to find that a. some 40 year old youngster had nicked my age group prize and b. that I had just enough time to get changed and watch the proper race. Fran duely arrived back off the bike in the lead although 2nd place was just a few seconds back, so this time she had to go through the gears on the second part of the run to take win number 3 for the year in a new course record we think. Jane King had yet another great race but was just pipped by 3 minutes taking 2nd in her age group. Mark from the wave behind caught up with Mandy on the run and they settled down for a nice chat although we don’t think sheep were involved this time. Mandy took 4th in her age group. Johnathan ran through both of them on the run, oddly not stopping to join in the conversation (anybody would think it was a race??) and also took 4th in his age group. Finally from Bournemouth, Sarah took part in her first event , completing the swim leg in the relay sprint race – I’m sure we can talk her into taking on all 3 disciplines soon….

On Saturday morning, Chris Weeks showed off his impressive current running form with a 16min45sec 5k in Poole park – that’s proper fast – and Carl clockd an impressive 19.15. And finally, Liz Hall took 2nd place in the Bustinskins Big Cove swim clocking 1.25 for the 3 mile event.

This weekend Derek is on the world championship qualification trail in Bristol…. watch this space.
