Well the sun is out and the warm weather is back……. somewhere else in the world. But despite the cold, wet and mud there were lots of superfast TriPurbeck runners doing what they do best at the Blackmore Vale Half and the Portland Marathon. Ray Courtney and Simon Carvisiglia both nailed down massive PB performances in the Blackmore Vale Half – Ray finishing in 1hr30min and Simon breaking 1hr40 with a 1hr39min finish looking in excellent shape. I’m clearly going to have to sabotage both of their bikes at Staffs later in the year (did i say that out loud?)

Over in Portland, Rose Clark toughed it out to finish the full marathon identifying it as the “hardest race I’ve ever done” – mega effort from Rose. And Eric Sealey competed in the 10k finishing a full 17minutes quicker than last year – awesome.

So….. somewhere else in the world turned out to be Dubai where Mark Julier and Evan Davies took the sensible option and packed their bikes for some overseas action. ‘Nailed it’ doesn’t quite do it justice as Mark flew to a very fast 4.23 finish and 7th in his age group largely benefiting from not having broken his hip this year (touch wood) – don’t fall off your bike Mark. Performance of the day was probably shaded by Evan though with a brilliant 4.47 finish and second in his age group  - agonisingly only min behind a first ironman win for Evan. Between them, the chaps managed to qualify TriPurbeck for the 70.3 championships in Barcelona in 2018 – a great achievement given that the points were accumulated from just the 2 of them against clubs with many other athletes! So…………..  big outing to Barcelona 70.3 in May 2018 anyone???
