Liz Hall and Mandy Simmonds take the plaudits this weekend as they took to the open water in the New Forest Tri. It was alledgedly 14 degrees in the lake at the start and speaking as a man who wears a wetsuit at the beach in July it’s impressive that they got in the water at all. 23mins later Liz was out – posting a swim split that gives everyone in the club something to aim for this summer! Mandy completed her first ever big open water swim – a real achievement in a 400 strong mass start. Both put in solid bike legs and runs with Liz finishing an impressive 12th overall and saying she still felt strong – boding very well for Wimbleball in a few weeks time.  Mandy kept overtaking people all the way along to finish in 54th place in her first standard distance race.

Meanwhile, so that she could get in a nice warm swimming pool, we drove 120miles up to West Sussex for Fran to compete the Steyning Triathlon. The early season form continued with Fran finishing 2nd, although she would have won but doubled back to ask a marshall the way on the bike course! She still managed to post the fastest bike split of the day by 2 minutes and won me a nice new pair of sunglasses which I shall be sporting at the club session on Friday.  Good news all round then!

Great racing from all – big sportives next weekend.
