Great results from the TriPurbeck team at the weekend racing all over the country in the last few triathlons of the season……

Mum and daughter Nicky and Eleanor Mowbray were in action at the Hever Castle Series traithlons. Eleanor raced brilliantly to finish 15th out of about 140 8-10 yr old girls in a very competitive event – great performance. I haven’t been able to decipher the results well enough to figure out Nicky’s result but great to see her racing in (I think) her first time representing the club! Super Jed Skilton was also in action in the Junior Boys race finishing an excellent 3rd out of 204 athletes, further proof (not that we needed it) of this chaps talent.

Ultra crazy running tiathlete man Dave Pratten was in action in the New Forest Middle Distance Triathlon on Sunday, a significant undertaking for any normal human being, but a step down in distance for Dave after his ultra running exploits of the summer. No problem – another age group win in the bag and he’s back in training :-) Here’s Dave take on his morning’s work….

‘After a season of racing ultras and a handful of very wet, often cold triathlons I entered this one wanting to squeeze in a race before the season ends.

Race morning dawned under a clear autumn air, with a chill in the air and a mist covered Ellingham Lake. I enjoyed the mass start and usual ‘bun fight’ before settling down to a steady swim. T1 was not smooth, hampered by cold hands and feet. Then off to a very challenging but, enjoyable bike around the New Forest that warmed my hand, feet and spirits. You never quite know what you might encounter in the Forest and this year in addition to deer, ponies, donkeys, cattle and dogs there were a number of reports of piglets on the road. The bike was slow hampered by lack of training miles, but the subsequent run seemed to go quickly as a result of the ‘ultra run training’. To cap a fun day I won my age group, receiving a trophy and a bottle of bubbly!’
Finally, last weekend in the Purbeck Marathon Liz Goldsack ran a superb race to pick up 3rd overall lady and 1st in her category. I’m bit late reporting this because when I first asked Liz how she got on she replied ‘yes ok, I enjoyed it’. In the unlikely event that I ever come 3rd in a big marathon (or small marathon, triathlon, race of any kind in fact, yes including the Dad’s race at the school sports day, oh and when I play tiddly winks ?!!??) then I can only hope I display the same level of modesty. I don’t think so. Great race Liz – well done!!
