Clearly inspired by Roddy and Guy’s exploits in the mud at the races in Bovington a few weeks ago lots of the juniors have been off at various cross country events culminating in an excellent TriPurbeck showing at this weeks National cross country in Leicestershire. Unlike Guy and Roddy, however, most of the juniors have been training well and this has paid of with some brilliant results. Heidi Taylor finished an excellent 79th out of 600 plus in her age group with another year in the same category to come. Sam Brown was 54th and second Dorset athlete across the line in his age group. Jed Skilton, racing in the under 15 boys category, came an absolutely fantastic 8th out of more than 360 starters and only 3 seconds separated the top 8 runners. Highest finish of the day though once again goes to Serena O’Connor, 5th overall in the under 17 girls, putting together another excellent cross country season despite some earlier injury set backs.

Here are some of Serena’s results so far this season:

1) South West AA Cross Country championships at Bicton College, Devon on 20th December:  U17 Female Winner
2) Dorset Schools Cross Country championships at King’s Park on 14th January: Senior girls Winner
3) South of England Cross Country championships at a very muddy Parliament Hill, Hampstead Heath on 30th January:  U17 Female Bronze medal in time of 20:27.
4) South West Schools AA Cross Country championships at an even muddier Cheltenham on 6th February:  Senior girls 3rd place.
