Not quite but probably for racing in this country. So 2 options in Dorset today with great TriPurbeck representation at both. First up in the excellent Osprey Sprint Serena and Simon O’Connor and Lily and Andy Burnet were representing the father/daughter brigade. The finish was the same in both cases – daughter first, father second with both Serena and Simon knocking massive margins off their times from April. In Serena’s case a 5.39min swim, 38min bike and trademark 20min run put in her second place in the ladies race, a full 7 minutes faster than April to round off a brilliant season….. and she’s only just 15. Simon’s 8 minute improvement is also a massive margin – enough for a top 30 finish and 5th in his age group. Lily also knocked a couple of minutes off her time from April and despite a stitch on the run got 3rd spot in her age group and Andy was not far behind! Both girls have massive potential as they head into their winter training although they’ll both be racing at the Sika Duathlon in a couple of weeks…..

Meanwhile, over in Ferndown, Gary Sawtell, Simon Carvisiglia and Cheryl Weeks were in action, hoping for less choppy conditions than their last outing at Challenge Weymouth. Fortunately the wave machine was off and the pool swim turned out to be flat. Cheryl took great advantage of this knocking a whole minute off her swim time….. if only I could do that it would get the wife off my back (cut to bloke musing about sub 7min 400m swim split) although I may have to concede that ‘thinking’ about swimming faster doesn’t appear to actually have the same beneficial effects as getting in the pool. How inconvenient. Anyway, back to the action. Gary was generally ripping it up finishing a great 8th overall and first in his age category, Simon, meanwhile, knocked a huge 9 minutes off his time from last time to finish 17th overall and Cheryl was 3 mins quicker and I make it 2nd in age category :-)

Impressive results from the TriPurbeck crew once again, just in case Guy needs some inspiration for Wimbleball…. by the way we have 6 entrants and several campsites so far if anyone would like to join the party? Fran’s off to Mallorca next week and won’t be long til the Sika Duathlon so time to get those entries in……….
