So time for a round up of the seasons TriPurbeck related iron distance races……… We’ve already heard about the teams exploits at the Euros in Vichy but that’s not all the racing that’s been going on. In July, John Skilton and Peter Fraser headed out to Frankfurt to take part in the Ironman version of the European Championship. First iron distance race for John but you probably wouldn’t know – 1hr07min for the swim, 5hr58min for the bike and a 4hr27min marathon in soaring temperatures to secure a sub 12 hour finish for the big man – brilliant race. Peter Fraser, racing for Ireland(???), had a good swim – 1hr16min – and a decent bike – 6hr28min  – but the heat was taking it’s toll and dehydration slowed him up on the run. Respect to the big man though who finished despite the need for some fairly urgent medical attention to get the fluids into his system at the end of the race (this sort of thing never happens in a sprint race chaps). Unperturbed (or perhaps a bit perturbed) the now 3 times ironman put his name down for Challenge Barcelona in September. Now, one ironman race in a season is a massive undertaking – but 2? that’s either the stuff of madmen or legends.  Turns out we’re talking legend!

Sneakily, the organisers switched on the current in the river – I’ve always avoided river swims due to worrying about the embarrassing potential of not actually moving forward against the current – so it was a bit of a slog for Peter who’s swim time was much slower than expected. Unruffled by this, with big smile on his face (that’s just between me and you Peter) he posted a quicker bike split than Frankfurt to make up some time and a brilliant 4hr18min run for a 12hr36min finish – bananas are the way forward. Now the 13hr mark is achieved he’s planning 3 races in 2014………….. not.
